WICT NEW YORK ANNOUNCES NEW NETWORKING OPPORTUNITIES DESIGNED TO ENHANCE MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

More Events, Online Book Club and Social Networking Help Members Stay Connected and Informed

NEW YORK, May 13, 2009 – WICT’s New York chapter, lead by President Elizabeth Chunn of Time Warner Cable, announced today that the chapter has created a series of new networking events, an online book club and social networking groups in order to further enhance the value of chapter membership, especially during these tough economic times.

“These Chapter enhancements are a way for WICT NY to give its valuable members more opportunities to network and stay informed,” said Chunn.  “Through these difficult times we’re more dedicated than ever to helping our members stay connected to the industry and to each other.”

The Chapter is launching a quarterly “Tuesday Schmooze-Day” mixer with each one focusing on a different sector of the industry so that members can schmooze with leaders in their chosen field.  The premiere event is on Tuesday, May 19 at Social Lounge (795 8th Avenue) and is geared towards marketing, PR and creative services professionals.  As with any WICT event, all members and non-members are welcome to attend.  The next event is scheduled for September.

In addition, WICT New York has launched an online “Book of the Month” club (http://nywict.org/).  Each month, the Chapter’s board members will recommend a book dedicated to helping members further their careers and develop their skills.  The intent of the club is to create meaningful discussion around relevant business topics and to encourage members to host their own book clubs.  The current book recommendation is The Fearless Fish Out of Water (How to Succeed When You're the Only One Like You) by Robin Fisher Roffer.

To further help the Chapter’s members stay connected and informed, WICT NY recently launched its own group pages on the popular social networking sites, Facebook and LinkedIn.

WICT New York also hosts breakfasts where attendees can interact with high-ranking women in the industry.  Robin Fisher Roffer, CEO and Chief Creative Office of Big Fish Marketing, will address members on Tuesday, June 2 at MTV’s offices (1515 Broadway).  Earlier this year, the Chapter hosted Lauren Zalaznick, NBC Universal; Lori Greene, BBC America; and Shannon Cassidy, bridge between, inc.
